"Yay! It's nearly the holidays " we say but inside we were saying " I don't want to leave primary because I won't see my friends!" Yup, you might have guessed it I had to leave Primary school on Friday. It was a day of tears for my best friends Shari, Atarah and Bridget. ( There is a photo below but I don't have one of brisget.

Science

This term we have been doing... SCIENCE! I was so happy when I found out because one of my favourite subjects is  science! Our first experiment was the rising ink. We had to write with felt tip on some filter paper and dip the edge of the paper into the water. Next we did milky colours. We got a flat dish and put milk into it. We added blobs of food colouring and then we added detergent. When we added the detergent the blobs of food colouring mixed. 

Super Speeches!

In Term 4 the year five and six students had to write out speeches. I did my speech on social networking sites. Two people from each class would go into the semi finals. Nobody could decide what two people would go through so we put three through; Me, Shari and Atarah. We then did a speech off in front of all Anawhata Pod teachers. In the end it was Shari and Atarah who got to go through to the semis. Atarah got to the finals but unfortunally shari did not. These were the winners;

Shopping, Shopping and Shopping!

" Oh Mum we have to go to Smiggle, oh and Jay Jays, What about Stirling Sports because I really need some Converse shoes! " Yes, thats me demanding my Mum for stuff at the mall. Well we barley ever go, it was the first time in months. So on saturday I got to go to the mall. Yeah, I know to you it's not that exciting, but to me it's kind of a big thing.  At smiggle I was in there for ages! So next time you go to the mall don't take it for granted!

EarthQuake!

There I was sitting in my motel room of Taupos Resort after a full day of races for the North Islands watching TV when... RUMBLE RUMBLE SHAKE SHAKE!! I feel the the house shaking, the lights are swaying, everything is moving. I was scared out of my wits! It was an EarthQuake! I could not think of what to do so I just sat there and waited untill it was over. Nothing was broken and I did not hurt myself, It was not anything big, but it was still really scary. I rushed out of the house when it was over and my sister rung Mum and Dad on her Cellphone and told them what happed. Thank goodness nothing worse happened!

The North Islands

To all people reading this. If  you did not know, I am a sailor. Not the big " In the Navey" Sailors you know of. The little one-person boats called Optimist. ( See pictures below) I  don't just sail Optis, I race in them.
From the 12th to the 14th of Novemeber I did the North Island Champs at Lake Taupo Yacht Club. I came 25th out of 63 people! I am very happy with my result and hope to do well in other races too.

Shower Singer

" Hannah! Stop singing in the shower!" Says my sister Zoe. 

I love singing right? Well I find songs easy to pick up and I am ok at it. So for my love

of music I have picked up a habbit. Singing in the shower. When I get in the shower I automatically start singing. It's so hard to stop myself. It's pretty weird, it's like theres some spell on me to make me do it.

So I have a question for you; Do you sing in the shower?

I-Clean

It was a very normal day, we were doing maths when “Hannah, go and tell Miss Hughes that we are having an very important pod meeting and to drop everything and come to room 17” When everyone one was in room 17, Miss Davies  put us one I-Chat with a very important man from The Apple Bus Tour called Stuart Hale this is what he said “ Anawhata pod, I have had a look around the school and I don’t think it is looking to good. Your mission is to get it looking nice and good!” So that was that, we were going to clean up the school within one day.


First we had to get into our star groups then put two star groups together to make super groups!
After that we got to choose what part of the school we wanted to clean up, my group chose to clean up the gardens.
We then had to make a action plan and organise who will bring what and what would we would need.
The day after that it was Friday the I-Clean day! It was a lot of work but in the end we got there. It looked great in the end!
Mission complete!

Uni on Wheels!

For Uni on Wheels I did Forensic Science, Meet the Great Artists and Word Wizardry. We did all of the classes in the school prefabs. For Forensic Science we were studying crime scenes and we had groups to work in my group was Courtney, Aashay, Lisa and I. For Word Wizardry we worked on the history of language.  And last of all I did the Meet the Great Artists! It did not go the way I thought it would cause most of it was history and a bit of art! I thought it all was so fun and would do it again! 

The thing I liked about it was that it was so fun and I learnt so so much! 

I loved it and felt really happy that I was doing uni on wheels, 

but to be honest I got board at some bits!

Annie

On Monday the 6th of September 2010 the Anawhata pod went to a production of Annie at Henderson Intermediate School. We got their by bus, the bus was bigger than normal because it had a bendy bit in the middle! Once we had got there we were greeted by the head of the school and lead into the school hall. We got seated in big rows, I was lucky because I sat next to my friends and I was in the front so I could see the most! Annie is an old movie taken place in 1982 and it is about a group of sad orphans; Annie, Molly, Kate, Tessie, Duffy, July and pepper. Annie is the one who most wanted to get out of the orphanage so she trys to run away but gets caught, but to her advantage she gets invited to spend the christmas withy a very rich man called Mr Wallbucks. To find out what happens you will have to watch the movie but it is a really good musical!

Fire! Fire! Fire!

Thursday 21st October 2010

"Come on guys get FIREWISE!"
Was my class, room 17's reaction to our teacher Miss Davies telling us that we were going to learn about fire safety. We had a big brain-storm about different types of fire, how a fire can start, what to do in a fire and firewise tv ads! This is what we learnt:

1. Get low, get down, get out!
2. That the smoke from a fire can kill you
3. Make sure your family has a fire meeting spot
4. Call 111 for help
5. Don't grab all your toys and things! Just get yourself out

And heaps more...

Today the Henderson Fire Men came to our school to teach our pod about fire safety. They came and
showed us a slide show about how fast a fire can spread and showed us what to do in a fire.

Once all of the talking was done we got too see the fire truck and have a go spraying the hose.
One of the fire men got on top of the truck and used the big hose and sprayed the whole school car park, one poor man was getting out of his car and got really wet!

Hoani Waititi Marae trip

On the 28 of June  2010  Anawhata  and  Piha  went to  The  Hoani Waititi Marae. We did this for our term 2 topic, Maori.

When we got to the Marae  the Kuia did a special Karanga  to welcome us in. When we got in the Marae the Tangata Whenua, Mr Morris and Mr Cross  did their special mihimihi, to support that we did ou two songs: Te Whenua o Raumati and Ka Waiata.

When we were at the Marae we learnt a game called Nga Whitu. Nga Whitu is a game where you count up to 7 in Maori and make actions for the numbers, it is a really  good way to learn how to count in Maori! We were told three Maori ledgens and were given colouring-in sheets to colour in about the Maori Ledgens. Overall I learnt at lot at the Marae and had heaps of fun!!!!

"Noises Off!"

I was so excited I couldn't do my school work properly! For I was going to yet another preformance called "Noises Off!" I have already been to two preformances this year; End Game and Annie! ( I will blog about those later ) It was done at St.Dominics College ( The school my sister goes to ) by the year thirteen drama class. 
Noises Off was a play about a play. It sounds very confusing, and that is because it is! Some parts  of it I did not understand at all, but at the end my sister told me. Since St. Dominics College is an all girls school, some of the girls had to act as boys! The personalitys of the charaters were so funny, different and orignal. So I really enjoyed it overall and if they were to do it again I would totally reccomend it!

Blart ( The boy who didn't want to save the world! )

"I'm gonna go feed the pigs!' shouted Blart to his Grandpa. Blart loves pigs, nothing can take Blart away from his pigs. But he is forced to be taken away from them.  For he is the first son, of the first son, of the first son, and I could go on but he was the only one that could defeat Zoltab and his evil Minions from taking over the world!


Blart has misty blue eyes and a very dirty face. His hair is a greasy brown and very messy. Blart has ears  as big as an elephants! He wears dark, old, raggy clothes that are very low in style. And is shoes, oh the shoes are as old and ugly as his grandpa!


It is very hard to get a smile out of Blart mosty because he is not a very happy boy and because he hasn't been taught to have a heart. He loves pigs and is always spending time with them. He's not very smart and dosen't even know what the ocean is! Blart is quite bad at lying and try's to get out of things by doing it.


I remember once when Capablanca ( the wizard that sent Blart on his Zoltab mission ) were looking for a horse to travel on and once they had caught the horse they named him, Capablanca thought of some weird names but the horse did not like them then Blart said " Let's name him Pig!" So pig the horse it was!

Overall I don't think Blart is a very nice person and not very bright either, so if you ever meet Blart- you  probably won't because he is in a book, but if you do- don't say anthing too complacated! Remeber that!
 

Cup-Cakes for Animals!

I know what you are thinking, "What?, Cup-cakes for animals?" You have got it wrong, read this and find out what I am talking about...

On Monday the 30th of August I supported the SPCA for Cup-Cake day. I made some Pink cup-cakes with animal decorations on them. I sold them at school for $2.00 each and any other donations were accepted. This is what I did:

Buy stuff I need
Make up cup-cake mix
Cook cup-cakes
Ice them and decorate them
Take them to school
Sell cup-cakes
Count money raised
Send money to the SPCA
Done!

Here is recipe for Cup-cakes dogs can eat!

Pupcakes
Here’s a special occasion, sweet treat for your pups. Remember, to serve up these doggy cupcakes in moderation, we don't’ want your poodle addicted to strudel!

2 3/4 cups water

1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce

1/4 teaspoon vanilla

4 cups wholemeal flour

1 cup dried apple pieces - you can also use fresh fruit

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 cage free egg, beaten slightly

4 tablespoons honey

Preheat oven to 175 degrees. Spray muffin tin with cooking spray.

Mix all wet ingredients thoroughly. Combine dry ingredients in separate bowl.

Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients slowly , scraping well to make sure no dry mix-ture is left.

Pour into muffin tins.

Bake for 1 1/4 hours. Insert a toothpick into the centre of a pupcake and if it comes out dry, they are

ready to come out of the oven.

Wait until cooled to serve.

Store in a sealed container.

Makes around 12-14 pupcakes.
